Meet the new Jimnet Pitboard app for iPhone and iPad

The Jimnet Pitboard System now brings the Pit wall, team access, timing, race registration and hardware management together in one native app.

Built for racers, pit crews and team managers, the new Jimnet Pitboard app gives you a fast, clear way to stay connected to your car. It works with your existing Jimnet Pitboard account and compatible Pitboard hardware — there is no separate app account to create.

Jimnet Pitboard presents traditional pitboard information digitally on a non-interactive in-car driver display. The driver cannot compose messages or reply using the display, and no driver input is required while driving.

Competition Use

Motorsport UK regulations place restrictions on electronic communication between competing vehicles and teams. Jimnet Pitboard has not yet received confirmation of eligibility for Motorsport UK competition use. Competitors should verify the applicable regulations and obtain any necessary authorisation before using wireless messaging during an event.

The Pit wall in your pocket

The controls described below are for the pit crew; prepare display settings before driving. Use wireless messaging and supplementary flags only where permitted.

Select the connected racer, see the live Pitboard state and update position, timing, gaps, the eight-character message and remaining time. Quick messages, race flags and automatic countdown controls keep common actions close at hand.

Draft protection helps prevent a new live update from overwriting a message you are preparing. Recent activity and “server accepted” status make it clear what the service received; physical display delivery still depends on the car’s connection.

Supplementary race flag indications

The system can also provide supplementary race flag indications, including red flag and safety car status, where permitted by the applicable event regulations. These indications are supplementary only and do not replace official circuit flags, lights or race-control instructions.

Flag states are configured through the Pit wall; they must not be treated as verified official race-control signals. Supported states include green, yellow, red, safety car, full-course yellow and chequered. Configured alerts can flash on the display or drive compatible dash alerts.

Live timing beside the Pitboard

Open supported timing websites inside the app. On iPad and larger layouts, the provider’s webpage can sit beside the Pit wall so the crew can view it and prepare the next message without switching devices. Shortcuts open TSL and Alpha Timing pages, and a custom HTTPS link can be used for other providers. Timing information remains on the provider’s own website.

Built for teams

  • Invite team members or request access to another racer.
  • Approve requests before access is granted.
  • Allow view-only access or grant message permission.
  • Manage more than one racer from the same Pit wall.
  • Register for supported events and review race history.

Hardware settings without the laptop

CAN integration, vehicle telemetry, team management and cloud services are separate from conventional pitboard information. The CAN output described here makes received Pitboard information available to compatible dashboards or loggers; it should not be confused with an unrestricted vehicle telemetry uplink. Ask Jimnet to confirm the availability of vehicle telemetry uplinks and any planned extensions for the selected hardware, firmware and service. Certain advanced features may only be suitable for testing, non-competition use or events where expressly permitted.

Compatible systems expose device and display settings in the app, including display orientation, colours, labels, layout, shift lights, CAN integration, mobile connectivity, firmware versions and connection status.

Made for race day

  • Portrait and landscape layouts.
  • System, light and dark themes.
  • Crew-app Race mode to keep the screen awake; this does not apply the restrictions of the proposed Competition Mode, which is Planned / Under Development.
  • Secure saved sign-in with Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode.
  • Demo mode with sample racers and simulated sends — no real hardware commands.

Jimnet Pitboard for iPhone & iPad — App Store Setup and race-day help

The app supports iPhone and iPad. Some live, timing, mobile-connectivity and hardware features require a compatible Jimnet Pitboard, an active account and available third-party network/timing services.

Free ECUMaster ADU templates

We have also published two ECUMaster ADU starter projects to make Pitboard integration easier:

The templates decode position, four labelled timing/value fields, remaining time, the eight-character message, connection/signal status and flag information. They also include logic for signed gaps, time formatting and dash alerts. Back up your existing project, choose the correct CAN bus/bitrate and test the merged configuration before driving.

A new native Jimnet Pitboard app for Android is coming shortly. Android users can continue to use the browser-based Pit wall in the meantime.
