Description
Jimnet Pitboard — The Modern Digital Motorsport Pitboard
Traditional pitboard information. Delivered digitally.
Jimnet Pitboard is a digital alternative to the traditional motorsport pitboard, delivering familiar race information directly to a compact, securely mounted display inside the competing vehicle.
Designed to communicate information typically found on conventional pitboards, including lap times, race positions and pit instructions, the system allows drivers to view essential information without needing to locate and read a physical board at the pit wall.
The display is completely non-interactive for the driver, requiring no buttons, touchscreen interaction or driver-operated controls.
Competition eligibility is subject to applicable event and championship regulations.
Choose the compact Pitboard Link for CAN integration with an existing dash, add the optional 4.3-inch touchscreen, or use both.
Non-interactive driver information
Jimnet Pitboard is designed as a driver information display, not a two-way driver messaging system. The driver cannot compose messages or respond to the pit crew using the display, and no interaction is required while driving. The display does not provide remote control of the vehicle, engine management or vehicle functions.
The pit crew uses the app or web Pit wall to prepare and send information. Display settings are configured before driving. The non-interactive driver interface does not mean that the underlying mobile or MQTT network connection is technically one-way.
Supplementary race flag indications
The system can also provide supplementary race flag indications, including red flag and safety car status, where permitted by the applicable event regulations. These indications are supplementary only and do not replace official circuit flags, lights or race-control instructions.
Flag states are configured through the Pit wall; they must not be treated as verified official race-control signals. Supported states include green, yellow, red, safety car, full-course yellow and chequered. Configured alerts can flash on the display or drive compatible dash alerts.
App, team and cloud-service features
These crew-app, team-management and cloud-service capabilities are separate from the non-interactive driver display. Their use depends on the applicable event and championship regulations.
- Jimnet Pitboard app for iPhone and iPad with native Pit wall, timing, team, event and hardware screens.
- Live Pit wall with protected drafts, recent activity and clear “server accepted” status.
- Quick messages, race flags and automatic countdown for rapid pit-lane operation.
- Timing website viewer with shortcuts that open TSL and Alpha Timing pages, plus custom HTTPS links. Timing information remains on the provider’s own website.
- Team permissions so owners can invite crew, approve access and choose who may send messages.
- Race registration and race history for supported events.
- Hardware and display management, including firmware/device status, display layout, orientation, colours, shift lights and CAN settings on supported hardware.
- Race mode keeps the app awake, with light/dark themes and portrait/landscape layouts.
- Secure saved sign-in with Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode on supported Apple devices.
- Demo mode lets teams explore the interface without sending commands to real hardware.

How it works
Pitboard Link
The in-car receiver and CAN gateway connects through the available mobile network, receives information from the pit crew and publishes the data on the vehicle CAN bus. It can feed compatible ECUMaster ADU, MoTeC C/D Series, AiM and similar displays.
- Approximate weight: 200 g
- 6–30 V DC input
- Less than 500 mA current draw
- Milspec power/CAN loom supplied
Competition Use
Jimnet Pitboard is designed to provide the types of information traditionally communicated using a physical pitboard. Eligibility for use in competition depends on the applicable Motorsport UK National Competition Rules, championship regulations and any relevant approvals.
Motorsport UK regulations place restrictions on electronic communication between competing vehicles and teams. Jimnet Pitboard has not yet received confirmation of eligibility for Motorsport UK competition use. Competitors should verify the applicable regulations and obtain any necessary authorisation before using wireless messaging during an event.
Jimnet has requested formal clarification from Motorsport UK concerning Chapter 12, Appendix 4, Article 4.13 of the 2026 National Competition Rules. That clarification is pending; Jimnet Pitboard is not presented as Motorsport UK approved, certified or confirmed compliant.
Pitboard Display 4.3
The optional 4.3-inch colour touchscreen gives the driver a dedicated in-car display. Before driving, configure portrait or landscape orientation, light or dark appearance, text colour and the information shown on each line. No driver touchscreen interaction is required while driving.
Combined Pitboard Link and display weight: approximately 350 g.
App and web Pit wall
Use the Jimnet Pitboard app on iPhone or iPad, or open the web console from Android, Windows or macOS. No separate software is required for the web console.
What the driver can see
- Position: overall, class, both or disabled.
- Four configurable data lines: best lap, overall/class best, last lap, difference to P1, gap ahead, gap behind and other supported values.
- Custom labels: name the data lines to suit the driver and dash layout.
- Message: a clear custom message of up to eight characters.
- Remaining time: manual or automatic race countdown.
Designed with Driver and Pit Crew Safety in Mind
- Pit crew safety: sending conventional pitboard information digitally can reduce the need for personnel to hold physical pitboards towards the racing circuit or lean over pit-wall barriers.
- Driver awareness: a consistent, easily readable location inside the cockpit may reduce the need to look towards the pit wall. Secure mounting must preserve the driver’s view of the circuit and access to vehicle controls.
- Clear communication: concise, high-contrast information may improve legibility.
- No driver interaction: information is displayed automatically, without menus or any requirement for driver input while driving.
These are potential benefits of the design, not evidence that the system has been proven safer or reduces accidents.
Competition Mode — Planned / Under Development
Competition Mode is a proposed restricted operating profile. It has not yet been implemented and tested and must not be relied on as an available feature. Proposed features are:
- Configurable limits on message update frequency.
- An option for once-per-lap updates.
- Restriction to conventional pitboard-style information.
- Disablement of vehicle telemetry uplinks.
- Independently configurable supplementary flag indications.
- No driver-operated messaging interface.
- No remote vehicle control.
This is not an approved compliance mode. Once-per-lap updates do not establish eligibility under Motorsport UK rules. The existing crew-app Race mode keeps the app screen awake; it does not apply the proposed Competition Mode restrictions.
CAN and dash integration
CAN integration, vehicle telemetry, team management and cloud services are separate from conventional pitboard information. The CAN output described here makes received Pitboard information available to compatible dashboards or loggers; it should not be confused with an unrestricted vehicle telemetry uplink. Ask Jimnet to confirm the availability of vehicle telemetry uplinks and any planned extensions for the selected hardware, firmware and service. Certain advanced features may only be suitable for testing, non-competition use or events where expressly permitted.
- CAN output for compatible ECUMaster, MoTeC, AiM and other dashboards.
- DBC available for integration and custom dash projects.
- CAN address, bitrate and frame settings configurable on supported hardware.
- Connection, signal, flag, position, message, remaining-time and four labelled value channels are available to compatible integrations.
The Pitboard DBC uses the widely adopted Vector CAN database format. Compatible AEM CD-series and Race Technology software can import DBC definitions, selected Stack systems offer a Vector DBC import option, and configurable Cosworth Toolset systems can use the published signal definitions. Support varies by model and software option, so confirm the exact system and bench-test before use.
Free ECUMaster ADU starter templates
Download the correct starter project for the CAN connection used in your car:
The ADU templates decode position, four configurable timing/value lines and their labels, remaining time, the eight-character message, connection and signal state, flag colour and line validity/sign information. They include the supporting logic required to format time and signed gaps correctly and can drive flag/shift-light alerts.
Important: these are starter projects. Back up your existing ADU project, confirm the CAN bus and bitrate, copy/import only the parts you require, check for CAN-ID conflicts and test the finished configuration before driving.
